A new chapter in Bosch’s semiconductor history
Dedicated Semiconductors business division will enhance tailored offerings in established and new markets.
- Bosch strengthens its semiconductor business with a dedicated business division from January 2028.
- The new setup strengthens the focus on semiconductor markets and customer needs.
- Bosch builds on its strong automotive business while targeting selected new markets.
- Customers continue to benefit from Bosch’s technology expertise, quality, and long-term reliability.
Semiconductors and sensors are essential components of electronic systems, for example in vehicles, industrial applications, and consumer electronics. At the same time, new technology markets such as robotics and data centers for artificial intelligence (AI) are skyrocketing the demand for semiconductors. According to a current McKinsey report, the demand for generative AI applications alone will require an additional annual volume of up to 3.6 million semiconductor wafers by 2030.
Bosch has been on the forefront of semiconductor innovations for more than 60 years. Now the time has come to tap into new opportunities with an evolving semiconductor strategy. Bosch plans to generate five billion Euros in revenue from semiconductors by 2030. To achieve this goal the semiconductor activities will be bundled in a dedicated Semiconductors business as of January 1, 2028.
By establishing our own division, we are opening a new chapter in our more than 60-year semiconductor history. In the future, we will be able to tailor our services even better to our customers' needs – in the automotive sector, in consumer electronics, and beyond.
Combining semiconductor focus with Bosch strengths
Bosch is tailoring its structure and processes even more closely to the specific and highly dynamic customer and market requirements of the semiconductor industry. For customers this means receiving semiconductor technologies and services from a specialized semiconductor supplier, backed by Bosch’s broad portfolio, deep application and system know-how, and experience in industrializing semiconductor technologies at scale. This way, the new setup brings together the best of both worlds: a stronger focus on semiconductor customers and markets, combined with Bosch’s technology expertise, quality standards, and long-term commitment to the semiconductor business.
Building on a strong technological foundation
Customers from different markets will be able to use Bosch’s semiconductors and sensors for more applications. The future Semiconductors business division will build on a broad semiconductor portfolio including:
- MEMS sensors for automotive applications
- MEMS sensors for consumer applications
- MEMS foundry services
- Silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors
- Integrated Circuits (ICs) for automotive applications
- IP modules
- Quantum sensing solutions
Automotive applications remain an important foundation of Bosch’s semiconductor business. At the same time, Bosch sees opportunities to bring its semiconductor and sensor technologies into additional markets and applications. Robotics is one example, where Bosch can contribute its technological expertise as well as extensive application experience and system know-how. In addition, manufacturing capacities will increasingly be opened up to external partners in the future and the foundry business will be strategically expanded.
Strengthening the global manufacturing network
The Semiconductors business division will have a presence at around 40 development and manufacturing locations worldwide, ensuring local customer services and robust supply chains. Over the past years, Bosch has invested around three billion euros in the Dresden and Reutlingen facilities in Germany. In Roseville, California, Bosch is currently transforming the facility for the production of specialized SiC chips for approx. two billion U.S. dollars. Bosch also plans to further expand the test center in Penang, Malaysia, by the middle of the next decade.
Hence, customers can continue to expect what Bosch stands for: innovative technology, robust quality, resilient supply chains, and a broad portfolio.
