What does a Director Product Management ADAS ICs at Bosch do? What does your role involve?

My role is to identify future market requirements at an early stage and translate them into a strategy and roadmap for our radar and ADAS ICs. I combine market and customer needs with technological possibilities to develop products that provide our customers with a long-term competitive advantage. Another key focus of mine is positioning our solutions in the market, laying the foundation for their commercial success.

How has your field of responsibility evolved over the past few years?

Over the past years, my role has become much more market- and customer-focused. While technology itself used to be the primary focus, today a deep understanding of market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics is essential. Product management has therefore become increasingly strategic, requiring a high degree of adaptability and openness to change.

What are the most important decisions you make as an expert in your field on a daily basis?

A major part of my work involves identifying and evaluating business opportunities, as well as gathering, assessing, and prioritizing various customer requirements. I also define volume forecasts and target pricing for different market segments. Lastly, I am responsible for maintaining a clear strategic alignment with the market segments we address.

What makes this role unique, and what fascinates and motivates you most about it?

What makes this role so rewarding is the holistic perspective on product development, with the ultimate goal of achieving commercial success. At its core, it is about understanding product value and determining critical factors for a successful market introduction. This requires a broad perspective that extends far beyond technical specifications.

How do your insights and developments contribute to the success of customer projects?

If we anticipate key success factors correctly, our ICs will meet future market requirements. This enables both our internal and external customers to develop successful products – a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Which technological developments or trends are currently shaping your field, and which will influence it in the years ahead?

A few years ago, discussions were largely dominated by the vision of fully autonomous vehicles. Today, expectations have become more realistic. At the same time, the market for advanced driver assistance systems continues to grow dynamically, driven by the increasing availability of safety and comfort features across all vehicle segments.

With our technology perspective, we gain insight into several trends. Those include higher radar resolutions for more precise environmental perception, more powerful radar SoCs with integrated signal processing, and greater sensor connectivity within centralized vehicle architectures. In addition, factors such as energy efficiency, system cost optimization, and scalability are becoming increasingly important.

At the same time, competitive pressure is intensifying. As established players continue to consolidate their positions, new market entrants are emerging, particularly in Asia. To drive innovation in the semiconductor industry, therefore, not only requires additional functionality but also greater efficiency, higher levels of integration, and optimized support for future ADAS applications.

How do you collaborate with other functions across the company to drive innovation?

Developing competitive radar SoCs requires close collaboration across multiple disciplines. By continuously exchanging insights between our market experts, system architects, and internal lead customers, we bring together different perspectives and translate them into market-relevant solutions more quickly.
