XS_CAN

XS_CAN | Protocol controller IP for Classical CAN / CAN FD / CAN FD light commander and CAN XL

Protocol controller IP for Classical CAN / CAN FD / CAN FD light commander and CAN XL

The XS_CAN is a low gate count CAN IP module that can be realized as stand-alone device, as part of an SoC, as part of an ASIC, or on an FPGA.

Safety Element out of Context (SEooC) according to ISO 26262-11:2018 Clause.Developed according to the automotive cybersecurity standard ISO 21434.

Intermediate Delivery available.

Benefits

Supports CAN CC, CAN FD and CAN XL

Supports CAN XL with up to 20Mbit/s and 2048-byte data payload

Supports CAN FD light commander with up to 8 Mbit/s

Physical Layer

CAN_XL will be operable with all CAN transceiver types:

  • Classical CAN up to 1Mbit/s
  • CAN FD up to 2Mbit/s
  • CAN SIC up to 5-8Mbit/s
  • CAN SIC XL up to 20 Mbit/s

CAN XL and CAN FD can be operated in mixed CAN FD / XL networks

CAN FD light can use all transceivers up to 8Mbit/s

Optional Add-on

CTDMA – Cut Trough DMA unit

  • DMA (Direct Memory Access) optimized for XS_CAN
  • Use system memory for storage of CAN messages
  • Only Small local memory needed

Status

The specification of the CAN_XL protocol and physical layer is released by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization).

  • The ISO 11898-1:2024 specifies the CAN protocols (CAN CC, CAN FD, CAN FD light and CAN XL)
  • The ISO 11898-2:2024 specifies the CAN transceivers (CAN HS, CAN FD, CAN SIC, CAN SIC XL)

In addition, many other CAN related standards will be updated simultaneously to support CAN XL. E.g. the CAN Conformance Test according to ISO 16845.

Mandatory License of CAN Protocols

The CAN Protocols are patented products developed by Robert Bosch GmbH.

A CAN Protocol License is required for all implementations of CAN FD, CAN FD Light, TTCAN and CAN XL modules.
